What is
Vitiligo?
Vitiligo is a
skin condition where due to lack of Melanin in blood cells, a patch of skin
starts to pale and finally becomes completely white. This de-colouration of
skin has also known as de-pigmentation, where pigments of skin lack melanin.
Melanin in our blood cell has responsible for our skin colour and protect us
from harmful UV rays. Vitiligo has mostly seen in form of patches. In some
cases these patches remain in one place and do not spread further, in other
cases these de-pigmented patches spread over entire body in symmetrical form.
Although Vitiligo is not contagious but still causes damage to self esteem
because of its bad appearance.
Causes
There are yet to
be more causes for Vitiligo to be confirmed and researched for but main causes
that up till now were discoverable and observed by doctors are:

Vitiligo has first
spotted when due to lack of melanin the skin in form of patches starts to
de-colour. This de-colouration is to an extent when skin grows paler with
passage of time and finally ends up being completely white. It has been mostly
observed in people with darker shades of skin. Although Vitiligo is not like
skin infection or cancer and it is merely on skin and it causes no damage to
other organs of body but brings great damage to self esteem of a person.
Vitiligo has not curable and whatever medication has been invented or treatment
has only been preferred for the sole cause of slowing the process of
de-pigmentation in skin and covering up the spots affected by Vitiligo.
Famous
treatments that have proven to be useful for patients of Vitiligo are; UV rays
treatment where with help of UV rays lamp and some special ointment melanin is
reproduced in skin. This is done under medical supervision. Other treatments
for Vitiligo include through Herbal and homeopathic methods. Results for it
have been positive but it takes up a lot of time and recovery is slow.
Else then these
cosmetic surgery and tanning are also methods to cover up Vitiligo marks. These
solutions hide current Vitiligo spots but give no surety for patches that can
occur in future.
